BRYAN, Texas— Miramont Country Club, in proud and patriotic support of Folds of Honor and Allen Academy, is pleased to play host to the Second Annual Patriot Dinner on Sunday, April 29, 2018 and the Cadet Golf Classic on the ensuing day, Monday, April 30. The featured speaker of this year’s Patriot Dinner is Ginger Gilbert Ravella, widow of Air Force Major Troy Gilbert, who was killed in combat on Nov. 27, 2006 while flying an F-16 in Iraq.

Gilbert sacrificed his life on his 22nd Iraq mission while saving more than 20 Special Operation soldiers. His remains were initially stolen by al Qaeda fighters, who pulled Gilbert’s body from the F-16 wreckage, rolled it up in a carpet and stashed it inside a truck.

Since that day more than a decade ago, Major Gilbert’s remains were returned in bits and pieces. In December 2016, he became the first person, according to the records of Arlington National Cemetery, ever to be buried in the nation’s most hallowed grounds three times.

He left behind five children, all under the age of 9, at the time of his death. Ginger’s openly genuine testimony of wrestling with God in the midst of despair and depression is an inspiring and gripping tale of courageous triumph in the aftermath of heart-wrenching tragedy.

Ginger has shared her moving and motivating story of loss, perseverance and hope in venues such as “The O’Reilly Factor,” “Fox and Friends News,” TIME Magazine, “CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper,” The Golf Channel, USA Today, Air Force Times, Gary Sinise documentary “Lt. Dan Band – For the Common Good” and numerous other national media outlets.

Ginger is the Director of the Speakers Bureau for Folds of Honor. She is an international speaker and author devoted to her God, her family and her country.

The Cadet Golf Classic is an 18-hole, four-man scramble designed to raise scholarship funds for the families of fallen and disabled veterans through the Folds of Honor, as well as to raise money for the Financial Assistance Fund at Allen Academy.

The inaugural 2017 Cadet Golf Classic and Patriot Dinner at Miramont Country Club generated more than $60,000 in charitable funds, which was split between Folds of Honor and the Financial Assistance Program at Allen Academy.

At Allen’s Veterans Day assembly on Friday, November 10, 2017, Jay Graham, Chairman and CEO of Medal of Honor sponsor WildHorse Resource Development Corporation, presented a check to Ashley Schafer, the widow of USAF Major Rick “Tracer” Schafer, who was killed on August 3, 2014 in the line of duty.

“We’re excited that Jay Graham and WildHorse Resource Development Corporation have committed to be our Medal of Honor sponsor again,” said Miramont Country Club General Manager Aaron Dawson, co-chairman of the Cadet Golf Classic and Patriot Dinner. We were overwhelmed by the tremendous support of last year’s sold-out event, and our goal is to raise more than $100,000 in 2018 for two great organizations. I can assure all of those who play in the Cadet Golf Classic or attend the Patriot Dinner that they will never forget it. Everyone associated with the event is already looking forward to hearing Ginger Gilbert Ravella’s amazing story.”

The 2018 Patriot Dinner will also include a presentation by Brigadier General Joe Ramirez, the Commandant of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. During his 31 years of military service, General Ramirez commanded soldiers around the world and served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for United States Central Command during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

Folds of Honor is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled while on active duty in the United States armed forces. The foundation’s educational scholarships support private education tuition and tutoring for children in grades K-12, as well as higher education tuition assistance for spouses and dependents.

“WildHorse Resource Development Corporation is pleased to be the lead sponsor for The Cadet again because it supports such great causes,” said Graham. “Obviously, Folds of Honor is a tremendous organization, and we are pleased to also support a respected academic institution like Allen Academy.”

From its humble beginnings in 1886, Allen Academy has a long history and connection to the military, including a sixty year stretch from 1922 and 1983 where it earned the United States Army’s highest rating as an Honor Military School with Distinction. Since its opening in 2005, Miramont has maintained a strong alliance with Allen Academy, a school that has now blossomed into the only independent day school in the Brazos Valley, the only ISAS accredited school within 75 miles, and is home to nearly 360 students from age 3 through grade 12 in Bryan.
